GRAPE VARIETY 100% Syrah.
IN THE VINEYARD Rich in tannins, this variety is very suitable for wood and bottle long-term ageing. Elliptical shape and medium size grains are brilliant dark blue colour, forming a small and compact bunches.
GRAPE HARVEST Mechanical and during the nigth, to assure the low temperature when the grapes are taken into the winnery, and to reach a fruity wine.
WINE-MAKING Respectful vinification ensures varietal fruit expression in wine. Fermentation is done using the classic style in stainless steel tanks, with selected yeasts and controlled temperature. During the process, the wine is racking and returning (délestage) two times, extracting phenolic compunds by oxygenating the juice, in order to produce wines with more red and black fruit character and mineral hints, the grape variety typical features. Skin maceration remains until fermentation is finished.
OAK AGEING Seven months ageing on their lees in heavy toast French oak barrels. Wine arriving in the market after an additional bottle ageing of twelve months (minimum).
PRESENTATION Brown Bordeaux bottle of 0,75 L (6 bottles box).
TASTING NOTES Medium depth of garret red colour with a lively rim (meniscus). On the nose, Syrah intense mineral aromas merge with some hints of blackberry, dried plum, roasted coffee and a touch of spice from a short wood ageing.
In the mouth, the wine is silky, well round, fresh and easy drinking with a long aftertaste and a lingering finish, when mineral notes come back, but also, liquorice notes.
Val d’Alferche – Syrah is a very representative Syrah wine.
